The Current Schedule
I wanted to write down our schedule so that in a few years, when I wonder how we handled two babies, I can look at this and remember. Granted, our days are not always perfectly timed. Sometimes we have appointments, guests, or places we want to go that will mess up the schedule. And sometimes the girls are more tired, so they sleep a little longer, or more hungry so they wake up a little sooner. But generally we follow this plan.
Every day looks like this:
8:00 am- wake up, change diapers, feed
8:30 am- go downstairs, make breakfast, sit on our deck while we talk to each other
9:30 am- nap
11 am- wake up, change diapers, feed
11:30 am- go downstairs, take Abe for a walk
12:00 pm- Clayton comes home for lunch
12:30 pm- nap
2:00 pm- wake up, change diapers, feed
2:30 pm- either play on the activity mat, or we try to go somewhere
3:30 pm- nap
5:00 pm- wake up, change diapers, feed, Clayton comes home
6ish- sometimes the girls take a 20-45 minutes cat nap
8:00 pm- feed, change diapers, change into pjs, do nighttime routine, put to bed
11:00 pm- I usually do a dream feed before I go to bed
2-3 am- the girls wake up hungry, feed
5-6 am- they wake up once or twice, but don’t need to eat. Sometimes if I wait a few minutes they’ll fall back asleep on their own, sometimes I have to go give them a pacifier. Usually I tell Clayton it’s his turn :)
Our night time routine includes a bath every other night, changing into pjs, feeding in a dim light, swaddling, singing 5 songs while rocking them, saying a prayer, then putting them down with their wubanubs (pacifiers) and sound machines.
Most of the time when I put them down for bed or for a nap they don’t even complain anymore, they just close their little eyes. It’s wonderful. And I attribute it all to the schedule.
Doing the same thing at the same time every day is a little tedious for me, but Ruby and Cora really are the happiest when we have consistency. The days when we miss a nap or two are rough for them.
This week we’re changing things up a little bit and transitioning them into their crib. So far it’s been awful, but it has to be done at some point. Then, just when they’re used to the new location, we have to start weaning them off of their swaddles. I’m really not looking forward to that. Also, pretty soon we’re going to have to set up the second crib. Hopefully all of these transitions will be quick and relatively painless.
