Christmas 2019!

Merry Christmas!

Last night we had the cousins and aunts and uncle over for Christmas Eve Dinner. Dani made a ham, I made green bean and sweet potato casserole, and Sierra made rolls. I used all my fanciest table settings,  and even brought out a table cloth.

After dinner we played many games. One Johnson tradition that we did was acting out Luke (or Mathew) 2. We gathered props and costumes from around the house and tried to recreate the scene of the birth of baby Jesus. Sierra was baby Jesus since she’s the Christmas baby, Dani was Mary, Greg was Joseph and King Herod and the donkey, and the rest of us played the angel, the wise men, and the shepherds. Clayton narrated.

The cousins all got matching Christmas pjs. Even Abe got to match the kids. Around 7:30 Ruby asked me to put her to bed, which never happens, but I guess all the excitement was exhausting to her. Cora stayed up until 8:30 and then reluctantly went to sleep. Everyone kept playing games until about 11.

Christmas morning Ruby and Cora were up by 8 and ready to rip into some presents. We received many fun gifts this year. I mistakenly opened the baby stroller from Mimi first, and the girls fought over it for too long. Ruby and Cora also got a box of clothes, books, a fancy Nancy doll, mini mouse, hot wheels cars, a puzzle, and a tea set. Spoiled.

The girls played with their new toys while Clayton and I made breakfast. We make cinnamon rolls and eggs almost every Christmas.

Then we played with more toys. Finally we decided we needed to get out of the house, so we went over to the Brandt’s and asked them to go sledding with us. Ruby liked sledding, Cora did not. Cora especially did not like the snow.

We had a great time, and I think running up and down hills helped to burn off the sugar high from the morning. Finally Cora had had enough. We went home and made lunch, then put them down for a nap. It’s been a great day so far! We’re going to Grandma Natalie’s and Papa’s house tonight for dinner, and then hopefully going to bed early. It’s been a very exciting day and I can already tell it’s wearing everyone out.

I love living by my sisters.
